East Africa Drought Looming

The Kenyan Government is warning that 1.6 million people may need food aid as predictions suggest lower than average rainfall. Kenya will probably be able to manage the situation. The last time this happened (2011), the Kenyans4Kenya campaign collected funds from people within the country to assist those most seriously affected. The outpouring was significant (Sh 19 million in the first two days). This, combined with more technical disaster mitigation and management plans already in place suggests a country able and willing to look after their own.  Unfortunately, droughts tend not to respect national borders and some of Kenya's neighbours are not as able to cope.
