For the record, the stat for SA is one in five. 12 million people food insecure. That's somewhere between the population of Rwanda (10 million) and the population of Malawi (14 million). It's six times the population of Namibia. 21% of children are stunted. The rest of Southern Africa doesn't fare too well either.
Okay, yes, this is my personal soapbox. And in the interests of not turning this blog into an advert, I won't mention the particular South African solution that I prefer (and work for). Suffice it to say that food security is a large and growing crisis in South Africa and setting up a few food gardens simply is not going to cut it.
