Swazi King rejects loan conditions
A few months ago, the South African government agreed, in spite of widespread opposition from South African rights groups and trade unions, to a loan of R2,4 billion to bail out Swaziland. It now turns out that the Swazi King is refusing to accept the mild conditions attached to the loan. The conditions called for broadening dialogue to include all stakeholders and a commission to oversee adherence to the loan conditions. King Mswati III visited South Africa this week to call on the government to remove the conditions. In the meantime, Swaziland is running out of Aids drugs, has stopped paying pensions and can't keep running schools.
