Zimbabwe softening stance on mine indigenisation?
Zimbabwe may be softening its stance slightly on the indigenisation of mines. Two different ministers on Wednesday made statements that may suggest that the rapid indigenisation agenda might not be pursued as aggressively as previously suggested. The Mines Minister clearly stated that the government has no intention of cancelling mining licences. On the same day, the Empowerment Minister indicated that the 51% local ownership requirements could be waived in certain circumstances in recognition of the capital requirements of mining.
