Malawi stay away protests
Activists in Malawi have announced that the planned protests in the country will take the form of a 3-day stay-away from work after protest permission was denied by government bodies. "We are calling on all Malawians to stay home, pray and reflect on the problems that are affecting this country," said spokesperson for protest organisers. A government spokesperson has called the stay-away illegal. The country experience violent clashes between protestors and security forces during July 20 protests. Protesters are demanding goverment action on fuel and medication shortages and government actions which are considered to be authoritarian.
