Malawi protests postponed

Organisers of the mass action in Malawi have announced that protests have been indefinitely postponed. Injunctions have been issued to prevent marches, but protest organisers say several factors contributed to their decision, including a UN team who plan to mediate between the protesters and the government. Apparently a UN team is in Malawi to facilitate dialogue and their influence played a significant role in the postponement.

A UN team mediating between a government and its people. Political Science people (or anyone who knows more about this, really), is this normal? And if so, could we add a few other countries (Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Uganda, etc.) to their list?
