Malawi civil servants not paid

80 per cent of government employees in Malawi have not received their pay for July, according to the Daily Nation. The government has denied that there is a cash crisis and blamed the late payments on technical difficulties. Civil society groups claimed earlier this year that a cash crisis, caused by government actions, was to blame for fuel and medication shortages. The government is the largest employer in the country with 162 000 employees.
