European Commission resumes aid to Niger
The European Commission has announced that they are resuming aid funding to Niger after the country returned to democratic governance. Nigers military took control of the country in a coup early 2010 after then-president Tandja attempted to extend his term in office. There were widespread fears that the country would become a military dictatorship but the junta remained true to their promise to return the country to civilian leadership. The funds (25m Euros) are for health and education.
