Polio vaccination coverage

Angola is working hard to vaccinate against polio. Today a report was released stating that 500 000 children under 5 have recently been vaccinated in central Huambo province.

In South Africa, meanwhile, authorities are really hoping the vaccination coverage is as wide as they thought after a package containing samples of highly infectous polio virus went missing. The package was being transported from the National Institute of Communicable Dieseases (NICD) to the airport when the courier vehicle was hijacked. The vehicle has been recovered but the package containing the virus is still missing. The NICD is warning people not to open the box.
