NTDs in Angola
In 50% of the provinces of Angola, people face up to 14 neglected diseases, including river blindness, elephantiasis, schistosomiasis, intestinal parasitic, leprosy and sleeping disease. These debilitating, sometimes fatal diseases, are generally preventable or curable and are often strongly linked to conditions associated with poverty, such as poor water and sanitation services, poor knowledge and lack of basic health facilities and medication. Angola is the largest oil-producer in sub-Saharan Africa.
