Media freedom in Africa
There has been a lot of outrage about media freedom in South Africa recently. This story from Somalia today tells of Somali journalists walking out of a radio station rather than take orders from militants. In a highly unstable environment, the fight for media freedom sometimes involves directly challenging the people with the guns. The argument, of course, is that the new legislation proposed in South Africa could lead us to this same point but sometimes it is important to be reminded of what real oppression, real censorship looks like.
